MPG and Santa Anita Family Service Provide Grant for 90 Year Old Monrovian

Date of incident: February 2012
Santa Anita Family Service (SAFS) was approached by the MPG Board of Directors to provide assistance to a Monrovia resident in her 90s who was facing a substantial payment due to a plumber for work rendered. The woman was very concerned as to how she would pay off the bill of well over $2,000 on a fixed income. The woman initially reached out to the City of Monrovia who in turn contacted MPG. SAFS was put in touch with the client. The client was assessed for additional resources to complete payment of the bill. After communication with several organizations, SAFS staff was able to coordinate coverage of the entire bill amount. Negotiations and payments included a senior discount payment through the "We Care Program" through the city of Monrovia, payment through the resident's church, and the first grant from MPG. It was truly a community effort, inititiated by members of MPG and has aided in the establishment of the granting process which will undoubtedly service many older Monrovians in the years to come.
